Project Info
A high, steep slope directly at the back of the house was the major challenge in this garden! Unable to be altered by excavation, we set about making it more open and aesthetically pleasing through design choices.
Accessibility and maintenance were huge problems – these were solved by carving a path across the slope rather than steep steps straight up from bottom to top. Weed control in the section most difficult to access was established by creating a green ‘wall’, using blocks of groundcovers and heavy mulch. Along the now easy to access path, pretty flowering perennials and herbs were planted, creating a beautiful low care scented garden. A watering system was also installed across the slope.
Above the slope was a poorly performing thin lawn, which was eradicated using sheet mulching and sawdust to create a pathway. Native shrubs planted on either side created a secret path into the rest of the garden.
Testimonial
Amanda was extremely flexible in dealing with our needs, which often changed from week to week – always tackling each task with enthusiasm. Some of her major achievements include:
- A delightful dry stone walled pathway
- Clearing and re-planting of an extremely steep bank behind the house
- Laying of pathways and planting an avenue of shrubs for screening
- Selection, placement and planting of an array of wonderful trees, shrubs and other plants
- Installation of an irrigation system
If you are looking for a landscape artist who is ‘out of the box’ – Amanda is certainly the one! Her approach is individual, her enthusiasm abounds, and no task is too small.
